The giant pandas are not only a Chinese national treasure but are also beloved by people the world over. They are found only in Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. In total there are fewer than 1000, of which 80% are distributed within the territory of Sichuan province. Therefore, when visitors from home and abroad come to Chengdu, Sichuan Province one of their main objectives will be to see the giant pandas for themselves.
The places that the panda park opened
1.Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Center
Located just 10km (6miles) away from downtown Chengdu,  the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Center has been created and imitated the pandas' natural habitat in order that they might have the best possible environment for rearing and breeding. The Center cares also for other rare and endangered wild animals. The Research Center covers an area of 560 mus (92 acres), 96% of which is verdure. Giant pandas, lesser pandas, black-necked cranes, white storks as well as over 20 species of rare animals are fed and bred there throughout the year. Verdant bamboo, bright flowers, fresh air, a natural hill scene and a beautiful artificial view are merged ingeniously at the base.
2.Wolong Giant Panda Reserve Centre
This is  one of the earliest research bases established in the early 1980s by the Government of the People's Republic of China (PRC). Until 1989, the Ministry of Forestry of PRC and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) formulated the long-term Giant Panda Management Plan.
Today, the Wolong Giant Panda Reserve Centre was closed as it is almost destroyed by the 8-magnitude earthquake in Wenchuan the May 12th 2008
3.Fengtongzhai Nature Reserve
Established in 1975. In mountains & valley area of 39000 hectares reserved, located at Baoxing county, between east longitude of 102'8'' 102'7''and north latitude of 30?9? 30?0? total animals about 380 species, 395 kinds of plants in this area. There are 7 conservative portions in this reserve. about 250Km from Chengdu. Now there are 4 captive giant pandas. In it's history, the Preserve has ever treated and cured 23 giant pandas, and 20 of them alive. For these pandas, 12 of them sent to other places (country) as gift by China Government, 8 of them placed back to wild condition (their real family).
4.The Bifengxia Base
Situated in 8 kilometers from Ya'an City, 150 kilometers from Chengdu. It is the first scenic spot integrating natural scenic spot and eco-zoo in China, including leisure, vacation, sightseeing, and entertainment. Ecological wild animal zoo was built in 1999 in Bifeng Gorges.
The Giant Pandas in wolong were moved to Bifengxia after the earth quake happened on May 12th 2008,and then the tourists visit  Giant Pandas in Befengxia instead of Wolong.
